Family Stories

The House always provides a strong support to us.

March 3, 2011 Hikari Miyauchi

I learned about Ronald McDonald Houses when my then-2-year-old daughter who had been repeatedly hospitalized since 2 months old was hospitalized again for an operation in the National Center for Child Health and Development in Tokyo.
"I want to stay with my sick child but a prolonged stay will cause troubles."
But "the Houses have spaces where mothers can relax themselves."
"Why is my child suffering from such a disease?"
But "there are mothers who are coping positively with difficulties."
Ronald McDonald Houses provide strong support to parents who bear heavy physical and mental burdens from children's illness.
I was really grateful that I could have good sleep on a bed in the House after my daughter fell asleep in the hospital. I sometimes returned truly exhausted to the House from the hospital. When I heard devil's whisper or cried over concerns, I read a House users' diary and became aware that I was not only one suffering from children's illness. I became ware that all hospitalized children and their parents were struggling to overcome their difficulties! The diary taught me the importance of believing and gave courage to face difficulties. And gentle smiles of the House staff members, lovely facilities and Ronald's warm welcome at the House entrance helped my emotional recovery.
I am truly thankful for their support and really hope continued development of Ronald McDonald Houses.
As a former House user, I told about my experiences in those days and the important of the Houses every time I see a RMHC donation box in a McDonald's restaurant.
I intend to continuously give "small support" with my children to the Houses.?
My daughter made good progress after the operation and also completed medical care in her home town. She is now 5 years old and dreaming of becoming a princess.
